Guillain Barre syndrome reaches the country's financial capital from Pune, first case of GBS in Mumbai

GBS Case In Maharashtra: The number of Guillain Barre Syndrome cases is constantly increasing, and now its scope has reached Mumbai as well, in such a situation the Maharashtra government has increased vigilance. 

First Case of Guillain Barre Syndrome in Mumbai: After spreading in Pune and surrounding areas, Guillain Barre Syndrome has also reached the country's financial capital. On Friday, the number of suspected GBS cases in Maharashtra increased to 180. These include a 64-year-old woman from Mumbai, who has this rare disease. This woman, a resident of Andheri East, first complained of fever and diarrhea, after which her body gradually started getting paralyzed. On Friday, 4 new suspected GBS cases were reported in the state.

 

6 deaths due to GBS

so far Out of the 180 patients, 146 have been confirmed with GBS. A total of 6 deaths have been reported due to the disease so far, of which one has been confirmed with GBS, while the other 5 are suspected. According to the state public health department, of the 180 patients, 35 are from Pune Municipal Corporation area, 88 from the recently added villages, 25 from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, 24 from Pune rural and 8 from other districts.

 

How many patients were discharged?

Out of these, 79 patients have been discharged from the hospital so far, 58 are admitted in ICU and 22 are on ventilator. Maharashtra Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar has appealed to people to be cautious instead of panicking. He said that maintain the quality of water and eat fresh and clean food.

Instructions received from the Centre

Health Minister said that Union Health Minister JP Nadda has asked the state government to prepare a standard operating procedure for the management of GBS. He has instructed the state's health, urban development and other departments to take steps to prevent this disease.

Treatment of patients continues

Maharashtra government has been asked to provide free treatment to patients as per the guidelines of the central government. Abitkar said that GBS patients are being treated free of cost in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation hospitals. Apart from this, this treatment is also being covered under the state's Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana.
