In this context, a new research has revealed that people struggling with depression are more attracted to carbohydrate -rich foods. This research makes it clear that depression can have a deep connection with the severity of depression and the longing of food.

Researchers at Bonn University did this study and found that people struggling with depression show less will power to food, but they are especially more attracted to carbohydrate -rich foods. The study included 117 participants, of which 54 were depressed and 63 were healthy. These people were asked to react to various foods.

Food priority and mental state

Researchers found that depressed persons have less appetite, but they have more craving to carbohydrate -rich foods, such as milk chocolate. In addition, they have more aspirations of carbohydrates than high fat and high protein foods. This research also suggests that serious symptoms of depression, especially anxiety, are more to the craving for carbohydrates.
