heaped further pressure on manager with yet another below-par performance against . A 2-1 defeat means Spurs have now exited the Carabao Cup and in a dismal four-day period.
Mathys Tel's first goal on his full debut came too late and a sluggish Spurs will now focus on only the Premier League and Europa League.
Jacob Ramsey squeezed a shot through Antonin Kinsky within the first minute before Morgan Rogers scored a second goal after half-time. Postecoglou needs much more from his senior players if he is to survive the season as Spurs' head coach.
Here is how Express Sport rated Postecoglou's players, with five under-performers earning 4/10s.
Antonin Kinsky - 4
Kinsky has been excellent since his Spurs debut in January but it was his costly error that started this latest Spurs horror show. Ramsey's strike went straight through the goalkeeper. The 22-year-old went on to make a couple of good saves, but the damage had been done.
Pedro Porro - 5
Porro was fortunate to get away with a trip on Marcus Rashford in the second half but the Spaniard is one of few Spurs players who consistently try to make something happen. For it to be a full-back taking that responsibility is particularly damning for his attacking team-mates.
Kevin Danso - 5
Danso looks like he could be a solid signing for Spurs and he will have better games than this one. The centre-back was guilty of missing an excellent chance in the second half.
Archie Gray - 4
Gray would not have joined Spurs suspecting he would play most of his first season in Premier League football as a centre-back. The teenager struggled again in the position and was slow to react before Rogers' goal.
Djed Spence - 6
One of few Spurs players to come out of this game with any credit, Spence was combative and made good decisions on the ball. It is good to see him playing well after a tough few years.
Lucas Bergvall - 5
Like with Gray, this has been a tough introduction to English football for Bergvall. There is clearly a very talented midfielder in there, but games can sometimes pass him by without the help of senior players.
Rodrigo Bentancur - 4
Villa's midfield dominated Spurs. Playing around younger players, Bentancur needs to step up and show some leadership. His only real highlight was accepting a yellow card for a cynical shirt-tug.
Mikey Moore - 4
It felt harsh that Moore was the player taken off at half-time, but Postecoglou needed another body in midfield. It was an easy option to take off the youngest forward, rather than the under-performing Son Heung-min.
Dejan Kulusevski - 5
Kulusevski is another senior player who must do more and only avoids a four in these ratings as it was his excellent cross which Tel converted. The Swede is in danger of being a player who only pops up in moments, rather than taking entire games under his control.
Son Heung-min - 4
Spurs need more from their captain, who seems to be getting a free ride from his manager. The teenaged Moore took the flak for the first-half performance and was hooked at half-time, while other players have received public criticism from Postecoglou. Son must be treated the same.
Mathys Tel - 5
This was a tough full debut for Tel, who, at 19, has been entrusted to turn around Spurs' season. His clever flick from Kulusevski's cross came too late, but it will give the on-loan star confidence.
Substitutes
Yves Bissouma - 5
Spurs were being overrun by Villa's midfield but Bissouma did little to help the cause after his introduction.
Pape Matar Sarr - 5
Like Bissouma, Sarr also struggled to make a difference after replacing Bentancur on 72 minutes.
