Team Indian wrapped up the three-match ODI series against England in the second game at Cuttack with a four-wicket win over the tourists to register an unassailable 2-0 series lead on Sunday.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front with an incredible ton to help the hosts successfully chase down the target of 305 runs in 44.3 overs.
England, who opted to bat first after winning the toss, managed to put up a total of 304 runs in 49.5 overs riding on fifties from Ben Duckett and Joe Root. Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja was the star of the show for the hosts with the leather as he picked up a three-fer.
English openers Duckett and Phil Salt gave the visitors a solid start as they put up an 81-run partnership for the first wicket before ODI debutant Varun Chakravarthy dismissed the latter for 26 runs. Duckett was next to go as he fell to Jadeja after contributing with 65 runs.
Harshit Rana removed Harry Brook for 31 runs before Hardik Pandya scalped English skipper Jos Buttler for 34. Root, who top-scored for the English side with 69 runs was sent back to the hut by Jadeja, who tripled down on his wicket tally on the day with the dismissal of Jamie Overton for 6 runs.
Mohammed Shami scalped Gus Atkinson before Adil Rashid, Liam Livingstone and Mark Wood were all caught short of their crease after chipping in with 14, 41 and 0 runs respectively.
India began their chase finely as Rohit and Shubman Gill were in swashbuckling form right from the get-go. The duo put up a 48-run stand in the first six overs of the innings before play was paused for a while due to malfunctioning floodlights.
The game resumed when the issue was sorted out and the Indians continued the onslaught as the openers crossed the fifty-run milestone each. Rohit and Gill put up a 136-run partnership before the latter was scalped by Overton for 60 off 52.
Virat Kohli was next to go as he fell cheaply to Adil Rashid after having only managed to make 5 runs off 8 deliveries.
Rohit, however, kept the scoreboard ticking at the other end as he romped his way to his 32nd ODI century with a brilliant maximum over mid-off. The skipper chipped in with 119 runs off just 90 deliveries in an innings that included 12 boundaries and 7 sixes before Livingstone got rid of the opener.
Shreyas Iyer, who added 44 runs off 47 deliveries was run out by Buttler before KL Rahul joined his teammates back in the hut as he fell to Overton after contributing with 10 runs off 14 balls.
Atkinson removed Pandya for 10 off 6. But, Axar Patel and Jadeja saw the game out with unbeaten knocks of 41 and 11 respectively to take India over the line.
