Ranji Trophy 2025: Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane scored a century in the second innings of Tuesday’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal match against Haryana, showcasing his outstanding play. In the first session, he reached his 29th first-class hundred and remained undefeated at 88 runs.
This was the experienced batter’s 200th first-class game, and he did it in style, helping the club advance to the playoffs. Rahane was then out for 108 runs by Anuj Thakarai, but the defending champions are now up by almost 300 runs. Twelve of his first-class hundreds came in the longest format, bringing his total to 41. Additionally, he is getting closer to reaching the 14000-run mark in this format.
In addition to hitting 108 runs with 13 fours, it was his first century in the current domestic competition. Additionally, he and Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of India in the Twenty20 Internationals, stitched a 129-run partnership until Yadav was removed after 70 runs.
After a meltdown in the first innings, Mumbai’s top order eventually came through with a gutsy 48-run effort from star all-rounder Shivam Dube. The squad relied on Shams Mulani and Tanuj Kotian, who helped them recover when they were struggling at 113/7 and set a target of 315 runs, thus, Rahane’s gutsy knock of 31 runs was the only bright spot.
In terms of Mumbai’s bowling order, Shardul Thakur grabbed six wickets and put Haryana through a difficult time; in the first innings, they were down by 14 runs and had gone from 247/4 to 301 all out.
After participating in 12 innings of the current competition, Rahane has amassed 437 runs, including 102 half-centuries. Rahane has played often in the home circuit but hasn’t represented the nation in the longest format since July 2023. Additionally, he excelled in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 event, scoring 469 runs at an incredible average of 58.62 and a strike rate of 164.56 after participating in nine games.
Rahane will now play for KKR in the next season, which starts on March 21, after previously playing for CSK in the IPL 2024 and 2024.
