Draw 3-3 between Khalsa and SRCC in 11th Padma Shri Shyam Lal Hockey Tournament, DU Alumna wins

New Delhi: In the men's category of 11th Padmashree Shyam Lal Memorial Invitation Hockey Tournament in the national capital, there was a 3-3 draw between Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College and Shri Ram College of Commerce. In the women's category, Delhi University Alumna defeated Bharti College 4–0. In the male category match on the Shyam Lal College ground, Tanuj scored two goals and Arbaaz scored a goal for Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College. Vipin Nandal, Vibhanshu Tiwari and Indra Pal scored one goal for Shri Ram College of Commerce. Vipin Nandal won the Player of the Match award. Palak scored two goals for the Delhi University alumna team, the winner of the women's match, Shyam Lal College Sports Committee convenor VS Jaggi said that ten teams in the men's category and six teams in the female category are playing on league and knockout basis. The final will be played between the top two teams. Last year, Shyam Lal College in the men's category and Indira Gandhi in the women's category were the team of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences.

The tournament was inaugurated on Monday by Chief Guest Delhi University Dean of Collection Professor Balram Pani and former Olympian Ashok Dhyanchand. Shyam Lal College Professor Rabi Narayan Kar welcomed the guests and players and assured them that the college would continue to promote the Games, as it is said in a release issued by Shyam Lal Memorial Hockey Tournament. For Shyam Lal College, Praveen was awarded the Player of the Match award for two goals, while Lalit and Mohit scored one goal each. Pulkit scored two goals for the defeated team. Former Olympian Ashok Dhyanchand, recalling his 50 -year -old relationship with Shyam Lal College, expressed happiness over the promotion of various sports including hockey in the institute.

The release quoted Dhyanchand as saying, “I have a 50 -year -old relationship with Shyam Lal College. This tournament will run till February 17, 2025, in which top teams of Delhi University will participate in both men and women categories. Shyam Lal College Sports Committee Convenor VS Jaggi thanked everyone for his support. Shyam Lal College won the men's class last year, while the team of Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences won the women's category in this tournament. 10 teams in the class and six teams in the women's category, which will be played on the league and knockout basis.
