New Delhi: In the second ODI against England held at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday Indian mens cricket team captain Rohit Sharma scored 119 runs off 90 balls. This match marked his 50th ODI as captain during which he hit 12 fours and 7 sixes leading the world No. 1 team to successfully chase down a target of 305 runs in 44.3 overs losing six wickets in the process. The 37-year-old right-handed batsman one of three Indian captains to have won an ICC trophy aims to deliver another strong performance in the upcoming third ODI. The concluding match of the bilateral series between India and England is set to be held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday February 12. Should Rohit score a minimum of 13 runs in this final match of the home series he will achieve the distinction of being the second-fastest player globally to reach 11000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Rohit Sharma has accumulated a total of 10987 runs in 267 One Day Internationals (ODIs) since his debut against Ireland on June 23 2007 in Belfast. The record for the fastest to reach 11000 runs in ODIs is held by Virat Kohli who achieved this milestone in his 222nd inning during his 230th ODI. In contrast Rohit has batted 259 times in his 267 ODIs to date. If Rohit achieves a century in the third ODI against England he will join Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli as the third Indian batsman to reach 50 centuries in international cricket. Tendulkar concluded his career with 100 centuries in 664 matches across all formats while Kohli has recorded 81 centuries in 544 matches to date. In the second ODI match against England Rohit surpassed Chris Gayles record of 331 sixes in One Day Internationals (ODIs). If he hits a minimum of 14 sixes in Ahmedabad he will take the lead as the top six hitter in the 50-over format. Currently the record for the most sixes in ODIs is held by former Pakistan captain and renowned all-rounder Shahid Afridi who hit 351 sixes during his 19-year ODI career playing 398 matches for Pakistan.
