Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced a significant move to expand work-from-home (WFH) opportunities in Andhra Pradesh, with a particular focus on empowering women professionals.

This announcement, made on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, was aimed at reflecting state’s commitment to enhancing gender inclusivity and work-life balance, especially for women working in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Naidu extended his greetings to women and girls in STEM, celebrating their contributions to science and their achievements. He further emphasised the state government’s dedication to ensuring that women have equal access to growth opportunities within these sectors.

"Today, we celebrate the achievements of women and girls in STEM and reaffirm our commitment to providing them full and equal access to growth opportunities in these fields," Naidu said in his post. He acknowledged that the work landscape had undergone a significant transformation during the Covid-19 pandemic, with technology allowing remote work to thrive.

"Work From Home gained prominence as a flexible and scalable option. Concepts such as remote work, coworking spaces (CWS), and Neighbourhood Workspaces (NWS) provide new avenues for businesses and employees alike to create productive, flexible work environments," Naidu explained. "These trends can help us strike a better work-life balance, which is critical for women professionals," he added.

Naidu further elaborated on the Andhra Pradesh IT & GCC Policy 4.0, which he described as a game-changing step towards transforming the state’s IT and GCC (Global Capability Centers) ecosystem. The policy aims to foster the creation of IT office spaces across every city, town, and mandal in Andhra Pradesh, with the objective of supporting local employment generation and the development of infrastructure that aligns with modern work practices.

The policy also outlines incentives for developers to build state-of-the-art IT office spaces, making it easier for firms to set up operations in rural and semi-urban areas. In turn, this initiative is expected to create jobs at the grassroots level, expanding employment opportunities for women in the region.

"I am confident these initiatives will foster greater workforce participation, especially of women professionals, who will benefit from flexible remote or hybrid work options," Naidu added. He stressed that such efforts will play a pivotal role in providing women with more choices in how they manage their careers while balancing family responsibilities.

The Chief Minister’s announcement comes as part of a broader push to empower women and diversify the state’s workforce by leveraging technology to break down geographical and societal barriers to employment.
