A film not performing at the box office is a nightmare for the makers. Not even producers or directors want to see their film fail today we will tell you about one such film which was a disaster after its release. The film failed not because of its storyline but due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For several months the entire film industry was shut down in 2020 due to the pandemic waves. While regional cinemas gained massive attention it was Bollywood which suffered a lot. Regional film industries like Kannada Tamil Telugu and Malayalam bounced back after the pandemic in no time but it was Bollywood that struggled to get a head start. During this time several big and small-budget films got delayed in releasing which had a huge impact on the box office numbers. During the pandemic this dark comedy ended up becoming Hindi cinemas biggest disaster.
Indias Biggest Flop Film
The film which we are talking about is Dibakar Banerjee’s Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. The films production began in 2017 and starred Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra in pivotal roles. The film was slated to hit the big screens in March 2020. But as the COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak the makers of the film decided to release the film in May 2020. While a strict lowdown was imposed throughout India several public places like theatres and cinema halls were shut down therefore the makers once again forwarded the release date of the film.
However Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar was released on March 19 2021. It is worth noting that while the lockdown was lifted up the government planned to open theatres and cinema halls in a phased manner. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar was made with a budget of Rs 20 crore yet the film earned Rs 40 lakh net in India and Rs 58 lakh worldwide. This 2% return on investment makes it one of the worst in Indian cinema history.
