Apple Update: Is Apple giving space to porn apps on its platform? Why is there a ruckus?

Everything is not going well again between Apple and Fortnite maker Epic Games. This time the reason is a porn app. For your information, let us tell you that Apple has recently pulled up the European Union (EU) over a porn app. The iPhone maker warned that the bloc's digital rules opening the way for third-party app store downloads reduce consumer confidence in the company.

This app is Hot Tub iPhone app, which is available on AltStore PAL, an alternative app marketplace made possible under Europe's Digital Markets Act (DMA).

The Hot Tub app is described as an adult content browser. AltStore PAL claimed in a social media post on Monday that Hot Tub is the 'world's first Apple-approved porn app'.

Apple pulled up the app's claim.

Apple reportedly rejected that description. Apple said the availability of such apps would 'undermine consumer trust and confidence' in its mobile ecosystem. "Contrary to false statements made by the marketplace developer, we do not approve this app and will never offer it in our App Store," the company said in a statement.

'According to the European Commission, we must allow distribution through marketplace operators such as AltStore and Epic. However, we believe these operators do not prioritize user safety in the same way as we do.'

Europe's Digital Markets Act rulebook forces big tech companies to open their services to more competition, including allowing phone users to download from alternative app stores rather than being limited to Apple and Google's official app stores.

Where did Fortnite maker Epic Games come from?

AltStore receives financial support from Epic in the form of a grant. It has fought with Apple for years over the way iPhone apps are distributed and the fees charged for digital transactions that take place within them. AltStore hit back at Apple, saying the iPhone maker 'continues to use safety as an excuse to protect its monopoly power and avoid complying with the DMA.'

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney also took to social media to slam Apple, saying that on other platforms like Windows, Mac, and Linux, 'developers can create and release apps without the platform maker adding junk fees and passing moral judgment on their decisions.'

Epic Games CEO says Reddit app offers a huge amount of porn

In multiple posts, Tweney slammed Apple. Even Reddit got caught in his crossfire against Apple. "Apple is behaving extremely disingenuously here by attacking the European Union," Sweeney wrote in multiple posts. The iOS App Store hosts the Reddit app, which offers access to a massive amount of porn. Apple knows this, permits it, and has given Reddit a 17+ (!!!) rating and an Editors' Choice award.
