Let us take a look at his 5 controversial statements that went viral for various different reasons.  1. Parents Responsibility In Education At the launch of the 13th edition of Conceptual Physics in Bengaluru on September 9 Murthy highlighted the critical role of parents in shaping their childrens educational habits. He criticized a lack of discipline among some parents who prioritize entertainment over creating a study environment for their children. If the parents are going and seeing movies and then telling children no no you study that wont work parents should walk the talk cant watch movies and ask children to study  he stated. Murthy emphasized leading by example sharing how he and his wife Sudha Murthy devoted over 3.5 hours daily to helping their children Akshata and Rohan with their studies. His remarks underscored the importance of parental involvement over mere instruction. 2. Critique Of Coaching Class Culture In response to the suicide rates among students in Kota Rajasthan a hub for coaching institutes Murthy questioned the effectiveness of these institutions. “Coaching classes are not the solution to help our children learn better that’s completely wrong.” he said at the unveiling of a best-selling book in Bengaluru. He expressed concern that students often neglect regular school lessons while parents unable to provide academic support turn to expensive coaching centers.  3. Advocacy For 70-Hour Work Week Murthy faced a huge backlash over him suggesting that young Indians should adopt a 70-hour work week to improve national productivity and compete globally. Speaking on the podcast The Record by 3one4 Capital he said “Unless we improve our work productivity... we will not be able to compete with countries that have made tremendous progress. My request is that our youngsters must say ‘This is my country. I’d like to work 70 hours a week.’” 4. Infosys COO Pay Controversy In 2017 Murthy publicly opposed the significant pay hike approved for Infosys COO Pravin Rao calling it “not proper.” He argued that such decisions undermine trust among employees especially when there is a stark disparity between executive compensation and the average employee’s salary. Murthy’s remarks reflected his deep concern for equity and fairness within corporate structures earning both praise and criticism from industry observers. 5. Opposition to Remote Work Amid the global shift toward remote work after the COVID-19 pandemic Murthy expressed his reservations about the work-from-home (WFH) models in India. “I am not a great fan of work from home at all” he stated added “Please dont fall into this trap of I will moonlight I will do work from home I will come to the office three days a week. While some agreed with his perspective others argued that remote work could democratize opportunities and reduce commute-related stress on employees. Whether celebrated or criticized Narayana Murthy remains a figure whose words are  sparking conversations about the direction of India’s society and business world.
