New Delhi: Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha delivered a record-setting performance as Pakistan secured their spot in the 2025 ODI tri-series final against New Zealand on Friday February 14 at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. This achievement followed a memorable six-wicket win against South Africa in a virtual semi-final at the same venue on Wednesday February 12. Pakistan successfully chased down a towering target of 355 marking their highest-ever successful run-chase in ODI history. It was the first time since the 1992 World Cup that the team successfully chased a total exceeding 350 runs. Previously their highest chase was 349 against Australia in Lahore in 2022. Additionally Pakistan broke a 23-year-old record held by Australia for the highest successful chase against South Africa in the format. Australia had previously chased down 327 against the Proteas in Gqeberha. Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha create history: Rizwan and Agha formed a monumental 260-run partnership for the fourth wicket guiding Pakistan to a historic win. Their stand marks the highest-ever partnership for the fourth wicket or below in ODI run-chases. Notably the pair became the first duo to record a partnership exceeding 250 runs in the second innings of an ODI for the fourth wicket or lower. Their remarkable partnership is only the fourth instance of a 200+ partnership in a run-chase for the fourth wicket in ODI history. This marks the third-highest partnership for the fourth wicket or lower in the history of 50-over international cricket trailing only Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja’s 275-run stand for India against Zimbabwe at Cuttack in 1998 and Grant Elliott and Luke Ronchi’s 267-run partnership for New Zealand at Dunedin against Sri Lanka in 2015. Rizwan and Aghas 260-run partnership also ranks as the fourth-highest in ODI run chases behind Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga’s 286-run stand for Sri Lanka against England at Leeds in 2006 Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kocks 282 runs for South Africa against Bangladesh in 2017 and Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra’s 273-run partnership for New Zealand against England in 2023 at Ahmedabad. Furthermore Rizwan and Agha have now set the record for the highest fourth-wicket or below partnership for Pakistan with their stand being just the third instance of a 200+ partnership following Babar Azam and Iftikhar Ahmeds 5th-wicket partnership against Nepal in Multan in 2023 and Mohammad Yousuf and Shoaib Maliks 206-run stand for Pakistan against India at Centurion in 2009. Their remarkable partnership is now also the third-highest partnership ever by a Pakistan pair in ODI cricket for any wicket.
