Brookside star Jennifer Ellison has been rushed to hospital as she shared a heartfelt plea with fans.

The actress, 41, posted a snap of herself sitting in a hospital chair attached to an IV to her social media, writing: "The gift that keeps on giving. Need to feel well again."

She didn't add any further details, but posted a sad face to her Instagram Story.

Mum-of-three Jennifer starred as Emily Shadwick on Brookside from 1998 until 2003. She later appeared in The Phantom of the Opera in 2004, The Cottage in 2008, and Hotel Babylon in 2006.

The latest update comes after Jennifer lost an impressive three stone while starring on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins in 2022.

She told Closer magazine: "I lost a stone since doing it. I've since lost more because it really gave me a kick up the backside, because the gym is daunting to me.

"I was scared of the gym but then after SAS, I said if I could do that, I could do anything."

The actress said that she is "in the gym five times a week" for a "mix of cardio and weights," which has led to her being "three and a half stone down". Ellison said that she "feels great".

During the show, Jennifer broke two ribs, developed an infection in her lung and damaged her spleen, which landed her in hospital.

That same year, Jennifer was in hospital for a procedure to treat varicose veins after giving birth to her son.

She explained on Instagram while undergoing an "uncomfortable" treatment: "Since I had my first son Bobby 12 years ago I have suffered with extreme varicose veins in my legs, which look so ugly and sometimes cause extreme pain. Apparently its hereditary. Anyway they've gotten that bad that the next step for me would be a blood clot or ulcer.

"So I've decided to take action and do something about it. I'm writing this post because its something I've been extremely embarrassed about, its not something we like to admit to, in fact it's something I've gone to huge lengths to hide. I cant remember the last time I wore a skirt, a pair of shorts or felt like I didn't need to wrap something round my legs on holiday."
