State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has signed a preliminary agreement with Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd to explore collaborative opportunities in the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) value chain. Noel Tata is the head of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) a subsidiary of the Tata Group.
This partnership aligns with ONGCs commitment to expand its renewable energy portfolio targeting 10 gigawatts of capacity by 2030 as part of its broader goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2038. The initiative includes efforts in solar and wind energy projects and focuses on developing round-the-clock renewable power capacity to meet sustainability objectives.
The pact aims to explore diverse applications across the BESS value chain including utility-scale energy storage systems grid stabilization and ancillary services renewable energy integration and hybrid solutions energy storage for industrial and commercial applications microgrid and backup power solutions and infrastructure for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging.
This collaboration highlights ONGCs increasing focus on clean energy innovation and its pursuit of sustainable energy solutions to support Indias transition to a greener future.
ONGC On Partnership With TPREL
ONGC has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Ltd to explore collaborative opportunities in the BESS value chain at India Energy Week 2025 the firm said in a statement.
This strategic partnership underscores ONGCs commitment to enhancing Indias energy security through the integration of renewable energy and advanced storage solutions it said.
