Great news for Central Government employees under the National Pension System (NPS)! The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) has announced that NPS retirees will now receive a Fixed Medical Allowance (FMA) after retirement. This move aims to provide financial relief to retired employees who lack access to Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) facilities.
The Fixed Medical Allowance (FMA) is a monthly financial aid provided to retired Central Government pensioners who do not have access to CGHS facilities in their area. This allowance helps cover their basic medical expenses, ensuring better post-retirement healthcare support.
✅ Retired Central Government employees under NPS
✅ Must be eligible for CGHS but reside in areas where CGHS facilities are unavailable
✅ Employees who do not avail CGHS benefits or only use in-patient department services
💰 Fixed Amount: ₹1,000 per month
📌 Same rate as employees under the Old Pension Scheme
To continue receiving the FMA, retirees must submit a Life Certificate every year. This document confirms that the pensioner is alive and eligible for benefits.
🔹 The Life Certificate can be submitted digitally through the Jeevan Pramaan portal using Aadhaar and biometric verification.
🔹 Non-submission of the certificate will result in suspension of FMA payments.
This decision by the Pension Department ensures equal healthcare benefits for NPS retirees and aligns their medical allowance with that of Old Pension Scheme pensioners. It’s a significant relief for thousands of retired employees who struggle with medical expenses post-retirement.
