A young woman and her male friend were arrested on Thursday for allegedly obstructing police officers from performing their duty and damaging a police vehicle.
According to reports, 23-year-old Reslin from Kozhikode vandalized a police car and broke its window with her mobile phone.
The incident took place around 12:30 am near Palarivattom. Upon receiving information that a woman and her male friend were harassing and intimidating passersby with a knife near Palarivattom Samskara Junction, the police rushed to the scene. Reportedly, the duo were under the influence of alcohol.
After reaching the spot, the police tried to bring the situation under control, but the two started arguing with them. Following this, Reslin's friend Praveen, who is from Palarivattom, was detained. However, Reslin could not be taken into custody at the time due to the absence of a female officer.
"Both the man and the woman obstructed the police from taking him into custody, and the woman then broke one of the windows of the police jeep using her mobile phone," news agency PTI quoted an officer from the Palarivattom station as saying.
According to the police, the attack caused damage worth approximately Rs 15,000 to the jeep.
Subsequently, the woman was also taken into custody, and their arrests were officially recorded. An FIR has been registered against the duo under Sections 132 (use of criminal force to deter a public servant from performing duty), 296(b) (uttering obscene words in a public place), 3(5) (criminal act committed by multiple individuals with a common intention), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), and 324(3) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, the police stated.
