TRAI has taken a big step to provide relief to customers troubled by Spam Calls. Now if telecom companies do not tell the correct number of spam calls, then they will be fined heavily.
The Telecom Regulator Authority of India (TRAI) has become strict about spam calls. TRAI has made it clear that if telecom companies violate the rules, then they can be fined from 2 to 10 lakh rupees. Let us tell you that there are crores of mobile users in India and most of them are troubled by spam calls and messages. Let us know the whole matter.
Information about spam calls will have to be given in real-time
TRAI has asked all telecom companies to analyze the pattern of spam calls and SMS. This analysis will be based on high call volume, short call duration, and low incoming to outgoing call ratio so that spammers can be identified. TRAI has amended the rules and made it mandatory for telecom companies to disclose the full number of spam calls received on a number. If a company does not do so, it will be fined. For violating the rules for the first time, a fine of Rs 2 lakh will be imposed and for violating it for the second time, a fine of Rs 5 lakh will be imposed. Even after this, if the company does not follow the rules, it will have to pay a fine of Rs 10 lakh for each violation.
Now 10 10-digit numbers will not be used for telemarketing.
To increase transparency, TRAI has banned commercial communication with 10-digit numbers. This means that now 10-digit numbers will not be used for telemarketing. Instead, the '140' series will be continued for promotional calls, while the '1600' series will be used for transactional and service calls. Apart from this, TRAI has also made it easier for users to register complaints about spam calls. Now they will not need to register for communication preferences.
