England legend has claimed that India batter Virat Kohli should take lessons from Joe Root after he was dismissed by Adil Rashid for the second game in a row.
Following back-to-back failures in the first two ODIs of the bilateral series, Kohli appeared to be back to his best, scoring 52 runs in 55 balls. However, got the better of him for the 11th time in his career, only ’s Josh Hazlewood and New Zealand’s Tim Southee taking as many dismissals of the Indian great.
Pietersen remarked that Kohli should not have fallen prey to Rashid’s slow delivery and that he had overcommitted on the front foot. He suggested that the Indian batter could learn from on how to deal with such deliveries, saying that the England batter would not have overcommitted in such a situation.
Speaking during the mid-innings Pietersen stated: “He shouldn't be getting out to that ball. He's a much better player than that. And he will be kicking himself. That ball is bowled slowly through the air.
"So he shouldn't have been over-committed on the front foot. He should have played back to it. He should have punched it into the offside, and he would still have been batting and he probably would have gone on to get a big score.”

“Look how far forward his bat is in front of his pad. This means he's got the length wrong and he's too good a player to get out like that. He shouldn't be doing it. He shouldn't be giving Adil Rashid that chance to get his wicket.
“You watch Joe Root. He will never be over-committed on the front foot like that. No way.”
