England’s tour of India has been nothing short of a nightmare, and if there was ever an image to sum it up, it was fast asleep in the dugout during the final ODI in Ahmedabad.

, Archer found a moment of peace—perhaps too much of it. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri, never one to mince his words, was on commentary when the cameras panned to Archer snoozing.

With England staring down yet another heavy defeat, Shastri couldn't resist a jab. "Precisely the question which I said. Nice time for a nap. It's that kind of a trip for England," he quipped, his tone dripping with irony.

The brutal assessment didn’t stop there. , who was in the commentary box alongside Shastri, tore into England’s preparation - or lack thereof. He pointed out that replacement batter Tom Banton had spent the eve of the game on the course rather than sharpening his skills in the nets.

"The 2-hour flight from Dubai across here. He (Banton) was on the golf course yesterday,” he said. “He wasn't batting, and where have the issues come? The start, 1 for 60, 2 for 80.

“And then, what happens? None of them can play spin. And how do you improve playing spin?"

England’s lacklustre approach to the tour has been under the scanner, with Shastri revealing that the team had held just one net session throughout their stay in India. "If you're not prepared to do the hard yards, you're not going to improve," he said.

Although the margin of yesterday's smacking owed much to , a seventh century helping India to 356, an abysmal batting display from the Three Lions didn't help the cause either.

Seamer Gus Atkinson, with a quickfire 38 of 19 deliveries, finished as the joint top-scorer alongside Tom Banton, who had been drafted in as an injury replacement for Jacob Bethell earlier in the week.

The English players had already drawn scrutiny even before the final ODI., after the defeat in the second ODI, made a remark that didn’t sit well with Pietersen. "If we lose 3-0 to India, I don’t care as long as we beat them in the final in the Champions Trophy," Duckett said.

“Goodness me, it’s pretty poor that Duckett would say that he doesn’t care if England lose today and lose 3-0 to India,” he replied on X, formerly . “Context is important when reading quotes, but those words should NOT have been said! NEVER!”
