New Delhi: Sunil Jakhar, the leader of the Punjab BJP, posted pictures of a damaged seat on an IndiGo aircraft from Chandigarh to Delhi that he had taken in January of this year. A day before, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan brought attention to a similar problem involving a faulty seat on an Air India trip from Bhopal to Delhi.
Jakhar addressed the issue on X, saying that while the cabin staff was polite as usual, they had suggested that he file a complaint on the IndiGo website when he brought up the matter on the January 27 trip.

Here are some images of an Indigo Chd-Del aircraft from January 27th that show several seats with carelessly tossed cushions rather than the standard fitted seats that meet safety standards,” Jakhar said on X.
“Cabin crew, though courteous as always, expressed their inability to do anything about it and said I should complain on the company website,” he said.
Jakhar said that he was addressing the matter to guarantee that a “Directorate General of Civil Aviation ensures that this ‘chalta hai’ attitude of these two premier airlines does not extend to their adherence to the safety norms during servicing and maintenance of the aircraft.”
IndiGo replied to the article by stating that the airplane’s seats “are designed with removable cushions, secured by velcro, to facilitate easy cleaning and maintenance.”
“Sir, our chairs are made with detachable cushions that are held in place with velcro to make cleaning and upkeep simple. Rarely, they could sometimes come free and need to be repositioned for increased comfort, IndiGo said on X.
“We place a high priority on safety, and we guarantee that the overall design of the seat guarantees that safety regulations are not compromised. We appreciate your understanding and hope to have you aboard with us soon,” it said.
