A disturbing incident in Gurugram has sparked concerns about pedestrian safety on city streets. What began as a routine post-lunch walk for a group of colleagues quickly escalated into a tense and alarming situation. Sharing his ordeal on Reddit under the title “New Scam Alert in Gurgaon," a user described how he and his friends stepped out for their usual 5-10 minute stroll on February 21 when they were deliberately targeted by a passing vehicle.
According to the post, a Maruti Ertiga approached from behind and intentionally struck one of the pedestrians with its side mirror. Initially, the group assumed the driver—a tall, bulky man—had stopped to apologise. However, instead of remorse, he stepped out of the car and began shouting abuses at them.
“He started yelling, ‘Tumhare baap ki road hai? Mera shisha tod diya!’" the user recalled, explaining that the driver falsely accused them of breaking his side mirror, despite being the one who had hit them.
As tensions rose, bystanders and nearby security guards intervened to defuse the situation. However, the driver only grew more aggressive.
“He continued to threaten us, saying he would run us over if we were seen walking there again and that we should be careful while leaving our office in the evening," the user wrote.
“If not for the intervention of bystanders and guards, things could have escalated further, and the three of us might have been assaulted," he added.
The Reddit user claimed that this didn’t seem like a random altercation but a planned attempt at intimidation and possible extortion. He further mentioned that no one checked on the person who got hit by the car.
“Just wanted to alert all of you to be careful while you’re walking on the roads. It is our responsibility to ensure that the vehicle coming from behind does not hit us and we have people around us to support us. God bless Gurgaon," he concluded.
In the comment section, one user commented, “Sorry that it happened. He will be taught a lesson one day or another."
Another advised, “Walk in the office premises only. I do that only. There’s a lot of open and green space there."
Several disagreed with the user’s claim of it being a scam.
One user questioned, “How is this a scam, bro? Like he’s being pretty straightforward that he’s gonna beat you up… Where is the lie, the deceit?"
An individual added, “Not a scam. Walking on the road with traffic coming from behind you is simply foolish anyway.’
