Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA protests disrupted the start of Monday’s fifth day of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly budget session.
Following Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak’s remark on Mulayam Singh, Samajwadi Party MLAs caused a stir in the house. Satish Mahana, the speaker of the Vidhan Sabha, stepped in and ordered the protesting SP MLAs to leave the gathering.
Brajesh Pathak, the deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, made a remark that seemed to be intended at someone without mentioning their name.
According to the schedule, the budget session began on February 20 and will go until March 5. The annual budget for the fiscal year 2025-2026, expected to exceed Rs 8 lakh crore, will be unveiled on February 20.
Prior to this, on February 20, UP Finance Minister Suresh Khanna presented a budget of Rs 8,08,736 crore for 2025–2026.
The budget’s main projects include building four new expressways, turning 58 municipalities into smart municipalities, creating an artificial intelligence city and a cyber security technology research park, and providing scholarships to deserving students.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a plea to the opposition ahead of the budget session of the Uttar Pradesh State Assembly, hoping that it will be quiet till March 5.
The smooth operation of the session is not only the government’s duty, but also the opposition’s,” CM Yogi Adityanath said. The double-engine BJP administration has set exceptional benchmarks for Uttar Pradesh’s growth during the last eight years. Both the speech and the conversations inside the House provide a glimpse of it.
It goes without saying that the disgruntled and unhappy opposition attempts to avoid talking about these matters and seeks to obstruct House business. I suppose that this session might be excellent if the opposition assists in advancing the important conversation.
