Former captain had to be restrained as the Everton man tried to confront following the controversial 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.
The veteran – who spent eight-and-a-half years on the books at Old Trafford – appeared incensed with the Dutchman following United's comeback draw on Merseyside. Young, 39, was unfortunate to not earn what could have been the game-deciding penalty in injury time after going down under pressure from De Ligt and .
Referee Andy Madley despite replays showing De Ligt had pulled Young's jersey inside his own box, preventing him from getting to a loose ball near Andre Onana's goal. VAR's controversial intervention meant the two teams had to settle for sharing the spoils after and Manuel Ugarte cancelled out Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure's goals.

Post-match footage by the dugouts posted on social media by the Echo's Tony Scott showed Young being held back as he sought to confront De Ligt following the full-time whistle.
Young – who entered the match as a 54th-minute substitute – was making his way off the field when he turned back and seemed to be making a beeline for the former and defender.
Maguire, 31, intervened and ushered Young into the changing rooms before he could get to De Ligt. And Saturday's incident unfolded just a few days after ESPN reported De Ligt – who joined United from for £40million this past summer – was never wanted by his current club, but was rather a personal project for sacked boss , as he drove through the transfer for the player he had managed in Amsterdam.
It was said former United sporting director Dan Ashworth was partly to blame for approving the transfer in the first place. United's latest financial report for the last quarter of 2024 showed United spent £4m hiring and then firing Ashworth just five months apart, and the De Ligt deal was perhaps a contributor as to why.
The report also claimed that despite United being fairly well-stocked with centre-halves, Ashworth felt that after just giving Ten Hag a new contract, they had to show they had faith in him by signing a player he wanted.
As it turns out, De Ligt has in fact been one of United's more impressive defenders so far this season, along with Leny Yoro, whose beginning to life in Manchester was severely disrupted by an injury suffered in pre-season. De Ligt's presence will be all the more invaluable in the coming months after Lisandro Martinez was ruled out for the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury, while Maguire was arguably at fault for both goals at Goodison Park.
Meanwhile, Young continues to prove that while his body may be ageing, his temper hasn't waned in the slightest. The midfielder-turned-defender will turn 40 in July – when his Everton contract is due to expire – almost 20 years after making his debut in 2006.
