The remarks to Mr Musk, who is the world's richest man with an estimated personal fortune of £338billion, have been liked 58,600 times and "re-truthed" 11,100 times since it was posted on Saturday. It is not clear what led to Trump's outward attack on his BFF or what either man will do next.

The President of the United States had tasked Mr Musk with leading a Department for Government Efficiency (DOGE) to slash federal spending in government departments across the country. Some US government departments have instructed their employees not to answer Elon Musk's email. The FBI's new Director Kash Patel told his staff "pause any responses", adding: "FBI personnel may have received an email from OPM requesting information. The FBI, through the Office of the Director, is in charge of all of our review processes, and will conduct reviews in accordance with the FBI procedures."
