Tuesday is going to be important in Delhi's politics in terms of very special and political stir. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -led Delhi government is going to present 14 pending reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on the performance of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday (February 25). It also includes 'Sheesh Mahal' and reports related to liquor scam.
According to BJP MLAs, the CAG report will be presented on the House Table on the second day of the first session of the newly formed eighth assembly of Delhi. During the tenure of the AAP government, the BJP has been continuously alleging that the government had stopped the CAG report. Everyone will be eyeing the much -interested 'Sheesh Mahal' in the CAG report, on which the opposition campaigned fiercely during the election campaign.
Delhi's new Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Thursday last week that the CAG reports would be made public in the first session of the new government. The pending report of the CAG includes the state finance, public health related structures, air pollution, liquor regulation and the functioning of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).
During the tenure of the then AAP by the BJP, there was a demand to release the report related to the CAG. Then the party also moved the court to direct the government to present the report. The BJP had accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of deliberately delaying the audit to hide corruption.
This issue deepened during campaigning in the assembly elections in the national capital, in which the Bharatiya Janata Party had exposed this delay as an attempt to suppress the matters related to financial mismanagement.
An important report under the investigation is also related to the repair work of the government residence at the Chief Minister's 6, Flag Staff Road, which the BJP had called Sheesh Mahal. During the election, BJP also carried out fierce attacks about 'Sheesh Mahal'. In the audit conducted by the CAG, there was a matter of large-scale irregularities in the alleged planning and tender of the project.
About Rs 7.61 crore was sanctioned for this project, which started in the year 2020, but by April 2022, its cost increased and the budget increased to Rs 33.66 crore. In this way, this project recorded an increase of about 342 percent.
Not only the BJP but the Congress also targeted former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on the basis of these findings and accused him of misusing public money.
Not only this, the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi VK Saxena had also expressed deep concern about the non -publicity of these reports. Also, just before the election last year, he requested to call a special session from the Assembly in December.
However, these reports of the CAG were not presented during the AAP rule, due to which the demand for release of them continued to increase. The BJP fiercely mentioned this alleged scams during its election campaign.
