A newborn baby has died after reportedly being thrown from a hotel room window by an 18-year-old American , believed to be the baby's mother.
A witness reported the horrific incident at around 6am this morning at the Ibis Style hotel in the 20th arrondissement of on rue des Réglises. It is believed the young woman threw the infant child from the window of the room she was staying in, which was located on the second floor.
Witnesses heard screaming and were quick to raise the alarm, wih services rushing to the scene and the baby taken to the Robert-Debré hospital, in the 19th arrondissement. A young woman, believed to be the mother of the child, was also taken to the .

According to local media, she was on a study trip to Paris along with other students from the US. Witnesses claim the baby was thrown from the window "with the umbilical cord" still attached. Despite the best effors of emergency services, the baby did not survive his injuries and died, the Paris prosecutor's office confirmed to Le Parisien.
A magistrate from the Paris public prosecutor's office attended the scene, along with police officers from the minor proetction brigade (BPM) of the Paris judicial police, according to a police source. The prosecutor's office confirmed that an investigation has been opened for "homicide of a minor under 15".
The prosecution has said the young woman is "part of a group of young adults travelling in Europe", adding that she was taken to hospital where she is set to undergo an operation having recently given birth. The Paris prosecutor's office added: "She was also taken into custody on site. The possibility of a denial of is being considered."
A source close to the case told Paris Match: "the investigation is underway and the precise circumstances of this tragedy remain to be established... We do not yet know if we are dealing with a denial of pregnancy."
