Meher Baba or Merwan Sheriar Irani underwent a deep spiritual transformation at a young age and later declared himself an “incarnation of God.” He then dedicated his life to spreading the message of spirituality. In 1922, he founded Manzil-e-Meem in Mumbai, an ashram created to instill discipline among his followers. One of the most unique aspects of his life was his decision to observe complete silence for decades and he communicated only through gestures and small written words.

• Meher Baba was born as Merwan Sheriar Irani on February 25, 1894, in Poona (now Pune), India, to Persian parents.
• He attended a Christian high school and later studied at Deccan College in Pune.
• His spiritual journey began in 1913 after meeting Hazrat Babajan, an ancient Muslim saint, which revealed his latent state of God-realisation.
• Meher Baba later came in contact with four other Perfect Masters, each of whom played a significant role in making him realise his spiritual identity.
• On July 10, 1925, Meher Baba took a vow of silence which he maintained for 44 years. He used a writing board and later hand gestures to communicate.
• Despite his vow, Meher Baba travelled to the West several times where he met many of his early Western disciples who later joined him in India for spiritual training.
• He had survived two major car accidents: one in Oklahoma, USA, in 1952, and another in Satara, India, in 1956.
