To curb the increasing incidents of cyber fraud, the government has made the rules related to SIM cards more stringent than before. The Department of Telecommunications has instructed telecom companies to implement the Digital Integrity Verification System. Fake SIM cards are used for cheating people and criminal activities, which is why now while issuing a new SIM, companies will have to check customers on many different parameters.

The purpose behind doing this is to curb mobile connections through fake documents. After the change in rules, it has become more difficult to buy a new SIM card.

Biometrics has become necessary.

Earlier, to get a new SIM card, providing documents like address proof such as voter ID, Aadhaar card, passport, etc. was enough, but now the Department of Telecommunications has clearly instructed the companies that under no circumstances will SIM cards be issued without Aadhaar based biometrics.

Telecom companies will also have to check how many SIM cards are already issued in the name of the customer. If a customer has connections in different names, then the companies will have to check this as well. Companies will have to take photos of the customer from ten different angles before issuing a SIM card.

Strict rules will protect

Of course, these rules made by the government will seem strict to you people, but the thing to understand here is that this step has been taken for your safety. The government's commitment to protect the general public from incidents like fraud is visible. Till now the government has blocked 2.50 crore fake SIM cards, and the government has taken a big step towards preventing incidents like cybercrime.
