Infosys has indefinitely postponed the assessment for its trainee engineers just weeks after letting go of around 350 trainees from its Mysuru campus. The IT giant had recruited nearly 1000 engineering graduates in October. These trainees get three attempts to pass their evaluation and those who fail all three are asked to leave. According to an email seen by Business Standard Infosys informed trainees that the third attempt of the Generic FA2 assessment which was originally set for Monday has been delayed. The company assured them that new dates would be announced soon.
“We are here to help you prepare better and have decided to provide additional training and support from subject matter experts so you can successfully clear the assessment. Therefore the third attempt of the generic FA2 Assessment originally scheduled for February 24 has been rescheduled. We will soon convey revised dates” the email from Infosys accessed by ET NOW reads.
The employees who were let go aren’t convinced by Infosys’ explanation and believe it’s just a cover-up. They also claimed that the company did not offer the same flexibility to the 700 employees who were terminated on February 7.
Last week Infosys stated that it did not use force or intimidation when laying off trainees at its Mysuru campus due to performance issues. The company also said it was cooperating with the labour department to explain the situation.
Speaking to PTI Infosys’ Chief Human Resources Officer Shaji Mathew admitted that the failure rate in assessments was “slightly higher” this time but denied accusations that the tests were deliberately made difficult.
When asked if these layoffs could damage Infosys’ reputation as it prepares for campus hiring for the 2026 financial year Mathew reassured that the company’s plan to hire 20000 freshers remains on track. He also emphasized that new hires would receive top-quality corporate training.
The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) which has been advocating for affected employees believes that Infosys is feeling the heat. Our strong opposition to Infosys’ unfair layoffs has put pressure on the company. Now they’re trying to avoid further backlash said NITES president Harpreet Singh Saluja.
Infosys had extended job offers in 2022 with freshers expected to join in 2023. However their onboarding was delayed due to a slowdown in the global tech sector.
This wasn’t just an Infosys issue—many IT companies faced similar delays in hiring new employees.
