Every year witnesses several exciting cinematic releases but it also delivers a few disappointing films. One of them includes Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer The Lady Killer which hit the big screens on November 2023. The film was directed by Ajay Bahl who is popular for making action thrillers like BA Pass Section 375 and Blurr. Made on a mounted budget of Rs 45 crore The Lady killer was released incomplete in theatres. After multiple delays during the shoot and rising production costs the filmmakers made a sudden decision to release the film in just handful of theatres across India. On its opening day the film sold just 293 tickets earning only Rs 38000. The film ultimately wrapped up its entire lifetime collection in Rs 60000 and sold just 500 tickets overall. The Lady Killer turned out to be the biggest-box office disaster in India. Reasons why The Lady Killer was a mega-flop According to reports The Lady Killer was released incomplete without the climax being fully shot. Moreover the film received only a limited release in a few theatres because the makers had sign a deal with OTT giant Netflix for its streaming release in December. To go with the agreement the film needed a theatrical release during the first week of November. Reportedly the filmmakers chose to go with minimal theatrical release to secure the OTT deal. This is why the incomplete film was released without any promotional campaigning or publicity. As the film released and performed terribly at the box office its streaming got cancelled as Netflix reportedly backed out. Moreover no other OTT platform supported its rights and the film eventually released on YouTube for free on September 2024. The film has over 2 million views on YouTube but with lot of negative comments by the viewers. Bankrolled by Bhushan Kumar under his T-Series banner The Lady Killer starred Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles with Priyanka Bose S. M. Zaheer Ekavali Khanna and Denzil Smith in supporting roles.
