February 26, Sydney The Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix’s organizers have decided to allow fans to reenter the circuit after the race.
After fans breached safety gates and barriers in 2023 and onto the Albert Park track before all of the vehicles had completed the race, the customary post-race track stroll was outlawed.
While the race was going on, footage from the event showed fans within meters of Formula One vehicles. According to a follow-up safety inquiry, some spectators believed the race was over since the Safety Car was being followed by slow-moving vehicles.
According to Xinhua, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation stated it will reevaluate the restriction after the 2024 event and commended the fans’ conduct.
“We’re excited to say that the End of Race Track Walk will be back in 2025. At the end of this year’s race, fans will once again get access to the track to help celebrate our 2025 victors, making it a special and treasured event for fans across the globe.
“For fans joining us on Race Day in 2025, stay tuned – you will be contacted ahead of this year’s event with information about how, when and where you’ll be able to safely gain access to the track,” the organizers said in a statement.
According to ABC News, Steve Dimopoulos, Victoria’s Minister for Tourism, Sport, and Major Events, said on Wednesday that F1 fans would be thrilled to see the track walk return.
He went on to say that it would enable spectators to “get up close and personal” with the podium and trophy presentation, as well as the drivers and winning team as they gather close to the start line.
Earlier in February, organizers said that they anticipate the 2025 Australian Formula One Grand Prix, which will take place from March 14–16, will surpass the 2024 record attendance of 452,055.
