Tel Aviv: Early on Wednesday morning, the Israeli Defense Forces said that they had attacked military targets and armament storage facilities in southern Syria. The IDF released the operations update in a post on X.
It said that strikes were made on military objectives, such as command centers and locations for storing weapons.
The IDF said that it will continue its operations to “remove any threat to Israelis” since the military’s presence in south Syria threatens civilians.
“Over the last several hours, the IDF has attacked military targets in southern Syria, including command centers and many locations that house weaponry. Israeli citizens are in danger due to the military’s presence and equipment in the southern region of Syria. To eliminate any danger to Israelis, the IDF will keep up its operations.
The IDF has been making regular efforts to “ensure the safety and security of Israeli residents” near the Syrian border.
In this context, the IDF seized more than 3300 firearms from Syrian territory earlier in January of this year.
“So far, more than 3,300 weapons have been seized from Syrian territory,” it said on X. To protect the safety and security of Israeli citizens, our forces are still engaged in frontline defensive operations in Syria. Tanks, anti-tank missiles, RPGs, mortars, and observation tools belonging to the Syrian Armed Forces were seized.
The IDF also destroyed Syrian Armed Forces equipment and weaponry that “could harm our civilians” during another raid in January. As stated by the IDF, “We will continue to dismantle these threats on all fronts.”
It said in its X article, “UNCOVERED: An APC Associated with the Syrian Armed Forces Our men have captured and demolished Syrian Armed Forces weaponry and infrastructure during searches at strategic places around Syria. Among them is an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) that is loaded with explosives, anti-tank missiles, and other weaponry. We will keep eliminating these dangers on all fronts, and these weapons that may endanger our population are no longer a menace.”
