Jamie Overton has been added to the Jos Buttler-led team’s starting XI in lieu of Brydon Carse, who is injured. Due to a toe injury, Carse will not be attending the mega-event; instead, young Rehan Ahmed will take his place. Afghanistan would be using the same starting lineup from their first game at the same time.

Jos Buttler (c), Liam Livingstone, Jamie Overton, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Philip Salt (wk), Jamie Smith, Joe Root, Harry Brook, and Ben Duckett make up the England starting lineup.

Afghanistan’s starting lineup includes: Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Rahmat Shah, Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shahidi (c), and Azmatullah Omarzai.

ENG vs. AFG: The Captain’s Opinion

Jos Buttler (Captain of England): “All right. The dew entered. Later in the evening, perhaps, it will slip off the surface. We also would have batted first. This wicket seems decent. In order to win today, we want to do well generally. We have one change. Jamie Overton steps in when Brandon Carse is sidelined due to an injury. The level of individual competence is consistently high. Everyone is held to high standards. Today, the quick bowlers will be rushing in.

Afghanistan’s captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi: “We would want to bat first. The wicket seems to be in decent condition. The second inning is a little sluggish, which is what occurred in the last game; maybe we get some spin there. There are times when dew is coming and others when it is not. This pitch slows down a little in the second inning, and maybe the dew won’t get to our spinners. During the team meeting, we spoke about how we weren’t bowling in excellent spots. The same team is traveling with us.
