Campbell Scott: Body of missing British businessman 'found in sack of pineapples' in Kenya

The body of a missing British businessman was discovered inside a pineapple sack in a forest after he was likely 'tortured', it has emerged.

, 58, from Dunfermline in Fife, was on February 16. His colleagues after being unable get hold of him on his mobile phone. On Saturday, the body of a man was, located around 60 miles to the southeast of the city, and has since been taken to hospital for identification. A Foreign Office spokesperson said they were "supporting the family of a British man who has died in Kenya" and are "in contact with the local authorities".

Now, local official Thomas Maitha has made some grim claims about the grim state Mr Scott was found in - and suggested he "appeared to have been tortured". Speaking to Kenya's The Standard Newspaper, he alleged that Mr Scott's eyes had been gouged out and his ears had been cut before his body was stuffed inside a green pineapple sack, adding: "The body, which was in bad state, prompted us to escalate the matter further. In addition to the physical injuries, the killer had tied his hands from the back, and stuffed the body in the sack which had been packed with ripe pineapples." It is also reported he had severe burns to his face, likely in an effort to obscure his identity.

Mr Scott was on a business trip and had been attending a conference at the five star JW Marriott hotel in Nairobi. Detectives believe Mr Scott visited a bar in Nairobi's upmarket Westlands neighbourhood on February 15, returning to the venue on the day of his disappearance before travelling by taxi to one of Nairobi's slums, Pipeline. He is then thought to have been abducted, likely by captors who demanded money to his bank accounts.

Two local men, a taxi driver and a waiter, have been arrested in connection with the incident, according to local reports. It is understood Interpol helped local police access calls on Mr Scott's mobile phone to determine who he was in contact with before he disappeared. Mr Scott had been expected to meet officials from Britain, the US and African countries at a workshop to discuss emerging markets.

Mr Scott studied at Kirkcaldy Technical College, and went on to work for a number of companies including Experian and Royal Bank of before becoming a senior director for US data analytics company FICO. A company spokesperson said: "FICO can confirm that Nairobi police have identified the body of Campbell Scott, a FICO employee. Campbell went missing last Sunday while on a business trip to Nairobi. “We are not sharing further details, as the investigation is in the hands of the police.

"We are devastated by this tragic news. Campbell was a leader in our international Scores business. He joined FICO in 2014 and was instrumental in introducing Scores to new markets and growing our business with existing partnerships. We mourn his passing and will miss his humour and kindness. Our thoughts are with Campbell’s family and friends."
