The government is now preparing to promote data centers across the country. For this, it is also paying attention to electricity needs. The Ministry of Power has asked the states to assess the possible power consumption of data centers. For this, consult the industry. The Ministry has also held meetings with the IT industry organization Nasscom and the Ministry of Electronics.
Ministry meetings will continue further. There is a possibility of another meeting in early March. In this, the needs and places of data centers will be discussed. So that proper infrastructure can be prepared on time. The government says that as soon as the data centers will get information about the needs and places. They will be shared.
Transmission lines and other infrastructure required for them can be prepared until data centers are created. The Ministry has discussed with some states to simplify the rules for the establishment of data centers. The demand for electricity centers in India can reach 3.2 GW by FY28. At present it is 1 GW.
However, these figures are initial estimates. They can change after getting clear information from the industry. There will be important factor for data centers such as lower latency, security, land related permission, and availability of skilled workers. In future, data centers can be built near renewal power plants, especially in the outskirts of main cities. With this, special attention is being paid to the power supply.
