With a scorching 58 off 31 balls, Ashleigh Gardner took the lead as the Gujarat Giants, who are currently in last position in the WPL, defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by a commanding six wickets on Thursday.

When GG decided to bowl, they had a disciplined bowling performance, limiting RCB to a subpar 125/7 thanks to Tanuja Kanwar (2/16) and Deandra Dottin (2/31). Gardner, an offspin all-rounder, also contributed with a clean spell of 1/22.

Gardner hit three sixes and six fours in her third fifty of the competition, and GG won in just 16.3 overs.

With back-to-back sixes—a slog-sweep over long-on and a forceful drive over deep midwicket—she swiftly reached her half-century in only 28 balls.

Gardner seized the lead when GG’s top order failed, with Beth Mooney (17), Dayalan Hemalatha (11), and Harleen Deol (5) falling cheaply.

The Giants, who are in last position and have only won once, gave their best with the ball as left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar (2/16) and pace leader Deandra (2/31) put on impressive displays.

With strong backing from Gardner (1/22) and Kashvee Gautam (1/17) GG held the RCB ladies to 125/7 in their 20 overs.
