In a Rediff chat Anita revealed that she was still in school when she met Kaka during a trip to Mumbai. Since a family member knew him they arranged a visit to the set but the meeting ultimately took place at his house.
“He asked me for my number and said we will keep in touch” she said. Adding more she said that after a few days Rajesh called her to visit him.
“When I went on the sets he was shooting a song with Mumtaz. It was a rain song. I was asked to wait in his makeup room. I had come for a few minutes to see the shoot but mostly I was waiting in his makeup room. I was too young and didn’t understand why he asked me to wait there. He came to the makeup room and was there with me for quite some time. That’s how we started meeting. He wasn’t married then” she said.
Anita said that the following year she took a break from school when she was in Class 9 and lived in Mumbai for the next six months. And this was the year when she fell in love with Rajesh Khanna.
“I fell in love with him. He gave me so much attention. The way he spoke to me I was totally blown over” she said. But things changed after she moved back to Jaipur. They parted ways and without delving much into the reasons that led to the breakup Anita said “When I returned to Jaipur I couldn’t get over him. But I never called him. There was no fight but I was very upset with something that had happened. We just parted. He never kept in touch with me after I left” she said.
Talking further Anita said that she was suffering from depression. However she had no idea what she was feeling.
“I was too young to understand that it was depression. I became very quiet and aloof.” “I never got married. I was in love with him but I never wrote letters to him or called him. I went through a very bad time” she said.
