A senior Pakistan public administrator said that he will persuade the highest office holder in the country Shehbaz Sharif and have the cricket national team’s terrible performance at the Champions Trophy discussed in the National Assembly and the Federal Cabinet.
“The (Pakistan) Cricket Board is a separate organization. They are free to do whatever they wish and in this case they have done it, so it is my job to persuade the honorable Prime Minister to talk about it in the Cabinet and Parliament,” Rana Sanaullah pointed out with reference to the PM’s advisor on Political and Public Affairs Geo TV channel.
The home side Pakistan, crashed out of the competition early, losing by huge margins against both New Zealand (by 60 runs) and India (by six wickets). There was an embarrassing defeat against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi which was started but could not be played due to incessant rains during their dead rubber last group stage game.
Sanaullah, a leading member of Muqam’s party known as the Pakistan Muslim League (N) also a former federal and state minister as well, explained the criminal imposition of the PTV.
However, he acknowledged that the successive governments since last year had removed the PCB from the control of the Federal Government altogether.
“It is challenging since in one form or another we have been through highs and lows in cricket and the management of the Board for the last ten years,” stated Sanaullah while making an appeal for the worsening situation of the sport at the levels of club, university, and district.
He opined that in such circumstances accountability of PCB was required over utilising money when the base and the club level were all in a sorry state at that time.
“The money that is going out from the PCB has been raised in the country and in Parliament. Five million rupees are being paid to the mentors, and they have been given the opportunity to say in the media they don’t know what they are doing… thus they are being paid for doing nothing,” he claimed.
“The moment you see the perks and privileges that are awarded by the PCB to its players and officials, you will wonder if this is Pakistan or some advanced European country. These are matters that will draw to the notice of the Prime Minister.
“This is something that has been so for quite some time; people get themselves positions in the PCB simply according to their own wishes and do as they desire, leading to what are now the conditions of cricket and the board.
“Some reforms are definitely required so that we can engender a stable board as is the case in the rest of the world,” he stated.
