An 86-year-old fashion icon has revealed her secret to ageing with style - and it's all about what you put on your plate. Carolina Herrera, a globally recognised designer whose creations have been worn by stars like Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde and , shared her wisdom.

Despite being swamped with endless fad diets and 'miracle' anti-ageing solutions throughout her life, she insists that one simple tip does the trick. Remarkably, this involves eating six meals a day, as reported by , focusing not on calorie count but on the quality of the food.

Like many of us, Carolina kicks off her day with a breakfast to lay a good 'foundation'. Although her favourite dish is scrambled eggs with truffle, she typically opts for a bowl of unsweetened Greek yoghurt with fresh fruit.

Strawberries, bananas and blueberries are usually part of this, with the latter often hailed a 'superfood' by health gurus. This is due to its high antioxidant and mineral content, which may be linked to a lower risk of heart disease.

While most people have lunch as the next course, Carolina prefers to have a mid-morning snack. Her go-to is roughly 28 grams of almonds, another nutritious food packed with healthy monounsaturated fats.

Importantly, these are the same type of fats found in olive oil and avocados, which are also associated with potential heart benefits. Shortly after comes Carolina's 'most important meal of the day' - lunch, reports .

Carolina's go-to meal is a simple yet scrumptious green salad, crowned with either succulent grilled chicken or omega-3 rich salmon for that all-important protein hit. She follows this up with an afternoon nibble and then a light dinner, often opting for her preferred dish of grilled salmon fillet alongside steamed asparagus and quinoa.

To wind down before bedtime, she sips on a caffeine-free tea. This is key since doctors highlight that caffeine can interfere with 'adenosine' - a chemical that's essential for feeling drowsy.

In an interview with the in 2010, she said: "I don’t like fancy food so I have lots of simple fish and vegetable dishes." Later, she added: "The most important thing I do is drink lots of water. I wash my face with Universal Anti-Aging Cleanser by New York dermatologist Dr Patricia Wexler – I love her products as they are so light on my skin."
