The Union Health Ministry has recently issued a serious warning, which is particularly important for youth and song enthusiasts. If you keep earphones or headphones for hours, it can affect your hearing ability. The Ministry has sent a letter to all states to spread awareness on this issue, so that people can be motivated to adopt safe hearing ways.
Director General of Health Services Dr. Atul Goel has said that earphones or headphones should not be used for more than two hours a day. If someone uses it for two hours, it is very important to take a break in between. He also advised not to keep the audio voice more than 50%, and use noisy headphones.
The youth is getting the most affected by this problem. The growing trend of online gaming and social media has made this problem more serious. Dr. Goyal said that listening to songs in a continuous loud voice can cause damage to the nerves inside the ear, which reduces the ability to hear permanently. Even after the problem of listening once, it cannot be cured by a hearing device or cochlear transplant.
Using earphones for a long time causes a strange tingling or ringing sound in the ear. This problem may be temporary in the beginning, but if it is ignored, it permanently turns into deafness. Dr. Goyal said that tinnitus can also cause mental problems like depression in youth.
The Ministry of Health has given some easy suggestions so that you can protect your ears:
Keep the amount of sound low: Do not keep the audio more than 50%.
Take brake: Take a 5 minute break after every 30 minutes.
Use noisy headphones: It allows you to listen to songs in low voice by reducing the noise outside.
Pay attention to public places: Do not allow the sound level to exceed 100 decibels in places like cinema hall or concert.
