From the moment you walk into Duck & Waffle Dubai, it’s clear that this restaurant is an instant Dubai success.
The launch party spared no expense. We were immediately greeted with a generously poured, ice-cold glass of French sparkling and a buzzy-yet-warm atmosphere. As we explored, every corner unveiled a more pleasurable sight. The sizeable and comfortable terrace was adorned with glittering views of the Downtown Dubai skyline, with the magnificent Burj Khalifa at its centre.
At one end of the party, there was a symphony of fresh Dibba Bay oysters over ice, with all the fixings. On the other end, in true Dubai style, stood an enormous ice sculpture of a duck, with the restaurant’s logo adorning its mouth — open to pour American malt through its body, transforming into a crisp old-fashioned as it exited the duck’s belly. This playful touch added an instant element of theatre upon entering the venue.
The interiors and atmosphere were merely the backdrop to the food, which was the true star of the show. Some favourites included the crisp potato croquette topped with crème fraîche and caviar, the mascarpone-stuffed Mejdool date wrapped in beef bacon, the salty rösti topped with zesty beef tartare, and the buttery foie gras. While these were fantastic, the hero dish had to be their signature ox cheek doughnut: a crispy dough ball stuffed with slow-cooked, confit beef cheek and lightly dusted in a sugar, salt, and cinnamon mix—making for the most delicious, indulgent party bite.
Beyond the fabulous location, decadent food, and infectious atmosphere, this venue has a unique distinction that sets it apart from the thousands of high-end destinations dotted throughout Dubai: Duck & Waffle is open 24/7. Guests are welcome —nay, encouraged — to turn up and enjoy an indulgent three-course meal and drinks at any time of day. Whether it’s 3 am or 8 pm, you can expect Duck & Waffle to maintain the same lively vibe. For me, this really sets the eatery apart, particularly as we head into Ramadan. With many diners throughout the city fasting, this fun and unique destination is the perfect spot for a late-night dinner.
