Fenerbahce have confirmed they have filed a lawsuit against their arch rivals Galatasaray for what they describe as moral damages. The Turkish club say it's due to an attack on the personal rights of their head coach Jose Mourinho, .

In his post-match press conference, ex-Tottenham and Chelsea boss Mourinho said that the Galatasaray bench were "jumping around like monkeys" following an early tackle.

Mourinho also praised the decision to bring in Slovenian official Slavko Vincic to officiate the game and believes it would have been a disaster if the fixture was officiated by a Turkish referee.

Having refereed last season's Champions League final, 45-year-old Vincic was drafted in by the Turkish football federation after recent controversies involving Turkish referees.

Galatasaray said on Tuesday that they intend to take legal action against Mourinho. A statement read: "Since the commencement of his managerial duties in Turkey, Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has persistently issued derogatory statements directed towards the Turkish people. Today, his discourse has escalated beyond merely immoral comments into unequivocally inhumane rhetoric.

"We hereby formally declare our intention to initiate criminal proceedings concerning the racist statements made by Jose Mourinho, and shall accordingly submit official complaints to UEFA and FIFA.

"Furthermore, we shall diligently observe the stance adopted by Fenerbahce - an institution professing to uphold 'exemplary moral values' - in response to the reprehensible conduct exhibited by their manager."

The statement was posted on the Galatasaray club website under the headline: "Say no to racism."

But now, Fenerbahce have hit back and say they will be seeking damages as the club accused Galatasaray of attacking Mourinho's "personal rights".

"We would like to announce to the public that a lawsuit for non-pecuniary damages of 1 million 907 thousand Turkish Liras has been filed against Galatasaray Sports Club by Fenerbahce Sports Club lawyers due to the attack on the personal rights of our manager Jose Mourinho," a Fenerbahce statement read.

Mourinho was handed a four-match ban and a fine of over £35,000 for comments made towards the refereeing team on Thursday.

The statement from the Turkish federation detailed how Mourinho had "come to the match referee and used statements towards the referee of the match".

It continued: "Immediately afterwards, he directed his derogatory and offensive statements towards the Turkish referee, the 4th referee of the match, towards him and accused Turkish football of chaos and disorder with insulting and offensive statements towards both the Turkish football community and all Turkish referees, and his actions and statements that insulted the brand value of football activities in Turkey."
