WPL 2025 Points Table, Team Standings Following Match 13 Between DC-W and MI-W:
With an all-around performance, the Delhi Capitals easily defeated the Mumbai Indians, the previous winners, by nine wickets on Friday, moving them to the top of the Women’s Premier League standings.
When asked to bowl, DC initially used Jess Jonassen’s excellent ball handling to limit MI, the victor of the first tournament, to 123 for nine.
After returning with a commanding 3 for 25 from her four overs, Jonassen broke the backbone of DC by taking the vital wickets of G Kamalini, captain Harmanpreet Kaur, and in-form Nat Sciver-Brunt.
Captain Meg Lanning (60 not out off 49) and Shafali Verma (43 off 28) combined for 85 runs off only 59 balls to give DC a strong start as they chased the small mark.
Shafali was removed while attempting to knock right-arm bowler Amanjot Kaur over deep midwicket, despite being in excellent form. Amelia Kerr made a simple catch close to the boundary after she was unable to get the elevation.
However, at that point, Shafali and Lanning’s aggressive batting had all but guaranteed DC the victory.
Shafali hit two sixes and four boundaries in his 28-ball knock.
Lanning, who was having trouble scoring runs, arrived at the celebration with a sophisticated, undefeated knock that was full of nine boundaries. With 33 balls remaining, DC chased down the target, and Jemimah Rodrigues was still undefeated at 15 off 10 balls.
Earlier, DC chose to bat and got off to a respectable start before losing their openers, Hayley Matthews (22) and Yastika Bhatia (11) in short succession.
Before Harmanpreet Kaur (18) was removed LBW by Jonassen in the eleventh over, Sciver-Brunt, who was still in excellent form, shared 38 runs for the third wicket with the captain.
However, in the 14th over, Sciver-Brunt gave Jonassen a straightforward return catch to go out.
Then, while attempting a flamboyant shot over the leg side, Sajeevan Sajana ruined her team’s chances by ballooning a routine catch to DC captain Meg Lanning off Minnu Mani’s bowling at extra cover.
With MI struggling at 104 for 7 in 17.5 overs, G Kamalini was also unable to save her team after getting thrashed by Jonassen in the 18th over.
With no fixed batter in hand, MI struggled towards the finish but nevertheless passed the 120-run threshold without getting bowled out.
