New Delhi: A few days back we reported that Elon Musk the owner of Tesla would be marking the launch of the car in India soon. The Indian market is already abuzz with the excitement in the air in anticipation of the Tesla battery electric vehicles being on sale for the local consumers.
Now according to the latest reports Elon Musk-led electric vehicle company Tesla would be opening its first showroom in India at Mumbais Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) the deal for which has been finalised for a five-year lease as reported by Times of India.
The report says that the BKC Tesla showroom will occupy 4000 square feet of space on the ground floor of a commercial tower the rent for which would be one of the highest rents for commercial space. The rent will be calculated at the rate of Rs 900/sq ft or around Rs 35 lakh per month.
Apart from Mumbai’s BKC Tesla is reportedly working on opening a second showroom in Delhis Aerocity say the reports.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent US visit had met Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Within less than a month of the meeting the closing of deals for these two showrooms has been executed apart from Tesla’s job listing for 13 positions in India.
We discussed various issues including those he is passionate about such as space mobility technology and innovation. I talked about India’s efforts towards reform and furthering Minimum Government Maximum Governance PM Modi had said after meeting Musk during his America visit.
Tesla is considering importing cars from Berlin and initially selling them in India. As for the price of the car Teslas initial plan is to bring an EV to India for less than $25000 (Rs 2175000) according to a CNBC-TV18 report. Ahead of the unveiling speculations are being made over the price tags it could carry for different models. This is after India cut down on the import duty to below 20 per cent. Now the suspense is over the cost of the cheapest version after this much reduction.
According to a report shared by CLSA a global capital market company the cheapest car of Tesla will cost around Rs 35 to 40 lakh while Tesla’s cheapest Model 3 in the USA costs around USD 35000 approximately Rs 30.4 lakh at the factory level. In India after combining the reduced import duties and additional costs such as road tax and insurance the on-road price of Tesla’s cheapest vehicle would be around USD 40000 or approximately Rs 33-37 lakh.
