The tribal residents of Kalhe, a remote village at the foothills of Karnala Bird Sanctuary, received critical medical support through a free medical camp.
The camp was organized by the Navi Mumbai based Divine Foundation in collaboration with Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram and MGM Hospital, Vashi.
Owing to the demography of the village access to healthcare facilities is limited as a result the tribal families often struggle with medical issues that go untreated. " The village is in a remote corner before the camp. We had a meeting with the villagers wherein 4 heads of adjoining villagers came and they were briefed about the camp. They had to travel all the way to MGM Kamote which is almost 20 kms from Navi Mumbai," said founder and president of the foundation D H Subramaniam.
Recognizing this urgent need, the camp was conducted. “Through the camp the tribal families underwent blood tests for blood sugar, blood pressure was tested. Gynecologists screened pregnant ladies and provided them with general medical consultation and dental check up,” adds Subramaniam.
Total of 110 tribal residents benefitted from the camp.
Doctors and technicians from MGM Hospital, Vashi, played a key role in delivering high-quality healthcare services.
The initiative also included distribution of essential medicines and medical supplies for minor ailments, ensuring continued care beyond the camp. The foundation was supported by Dr. Ritu Khemani (MD Medicine), Manoj Thakur, Mr. Jha from MGM Hospital, the Deshpande family, and Sudam Pawar by coming to the aid of the tribal community.
The camp execution was due to a team of volunteers, namely Shantanu Patil, Siddhesh Patil, and Sahil Jagdale. The Divine Foundation also extended appreciation to its chief donors, including Ramesh Patel of Apna Bazar, Seawoods, Vidya Chandrasekar, Sunipa Acharya, Lalitha Gurumurthy, and Vivek Patni, for their contributions in making this initiative possible.
