Ahead of the Champions Trophy, the Australian squad has added a fresh all-round player. Cooper Connolly, an all-rounder, has been added to the team, according to the ICC.
In Friday’s (February 28) Group B match against Afghanistan, Australian starter Matthew Short sustained an injury. Because of this injury, youthful all-rounder Cooper Connolly has taken his spot.
Connolly is a spin all-rounder, much like Short. He won a position on the squad after playing excellently in the most recent Big Bash League.
Connelly has only amassed 10 runs in three ODIs so far, and he has not claimed any wickets while bowling.
Connolly is now prepared to perform in the pivotal semifinal. It is unclear, however, whether he will take Short’s spot in the starting lineup.
Australia will lose Matthew Short, who has performed better than expected in the Champions Trophy, since he will not be able to make it to the crucial semi-final.
Azmatullah Omarzai removed this opener for 20 runs off 15 balls when he was unable to move aggressively at the crease because of an injury sustained during the match versus Afghanistan.
Short had previously scored fifty runs in the encounter against England.
