PTC Web Desk: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has expelled her nephew Akash Anand from the party, citing the need to protect the party’s interests and uphold its core movement. The decision, announced on Monday, comes a day after he was removed from all organisational positions.
In a post on X, Mayawati stated, “Shri Akash Anand, like his father-in-law, is expelled from the party in the interest of the party and the movement.”
The move follows the earlier expulsion of Ashok Siddharth, Akash Anand’s father-in-law, whom Mayawati accused of creating divisions within the BSP and weakening its organisational structure. She alleged that Siddharth’s influence had negatively impacted Anand’s political conduct, prompting her to take strict action.
Mayawati criticised Akash Anand’s response to his removal, calling it “selfish, arrogant, and non-missionary.” She said instead of showing remorse and political maturity, he acted under the continued influence of his father-in-law.
In a recent party meeting, the BSP appointed Anand Kumar (Akash’s father and BSP general secretary) and Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Gautam as the new national coordinators.
This leadership reshuffle comes just weeks after the BSP’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections. Notably, Mayawati had reinstated Akash Anand as the national coordinator in June 2024 after previously removing him from the post on May 7, citing the need for greater maturity. She had earlier declared him her political successor in December 2023.
Despite this internal turmoil, Mayawati reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its core ideology and the upliftment of the Bahujan community. She also outlined plans for the upcoming birth anniversary celebrations of BSP founder Kanshi Ram, emphasising the party’s focus on social justice and empowerment.
