Cybercriminals are constantly evolving their tactics to scam unsuspecting victims. In a new wave of fraud, scammers are impersonating officials from TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), CBI, and law enforcement agencies, falsely claiming that the victim’s phone number is linked to illegal activities.

⚠️ Important Reminder: No legitimate authority (TRAI, police, or CBI) will ever call you asking for financial or personal information. If you receive such a call, stay calm, do not panic, and ignore it!

How the Scam Works

📍 Threatening Messages
Scammers send messages claiming that illegal activities have been detected on the victim’s number, leading to a temporary suspension of their SIM card.

📍 Fake Calls from “Officials”
Shortly after, victims receive calls from fraudsters impersonating government officials. These scammers demand large sums of money to reactivate the number or avoid legal trouble.

📍 Convincing Deception
Victims are often told that their SIM card has been canceled and that they must press "9" for more details. Once they do, the scammers falsely claim that they have been "digitally arrested" and must verify their bank account information to resolve the issue.

🚨 Real-Life Victims 🚨
🔹 A Hyderabad resident lost ₹11 lakh to this scam.
🔹 An IIT student in Mumbai was cheated out of ₹7 lakh.
🔹 A man from Kochi lost ₹5 lakh after being duped by fraudsters posing as TRAI officials.

Government Action Against Cyber Fraud

The Kerala government is actively fighting cyber financial fraud by creating a secure digital financial ecosystem with support from the Central Government and RBI.

Over 30,000 fraudulent bank accounts have been blocked
Scam-linked mobile numbers have been deactivated

Despite these efforts, awareness remains the best defense against such scams!
