Tel Aviv: According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), it has attacked a military installation in Syria’s Al Qardahah that housed weaponry from the former government. The IDF claimed in a statement on Tuesday that the recent events in the region were the reason for the decision to attack military facilities in Al Qardahah.

The statement claims that the IDF is still keeping an eye on events in the region and will take appropriate action to protect Israeli people.

The IDF said in a post on X, “A short time ago, the IDF attacked a military location in the Al Qardahah region of Syria where weapons from the former Syrian government were kept. The decision to attack military facilities at the location was made in light of previous events in the region. The IDF is still keeping an eye on events in the region and will take appropriate action to protect the people of the State of Israel.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, thanked US President Donald Trump earlier on March 3 for his “unwavering support” of Israel, especially in light of the current circumstances in Gaza.

Netanyahu hailed Trump as “the greatest friend that Israel has ever had in the White House,” emphasizing the important actions he has made to support Israel’s regional security, in a recent statement on X.

He also recognized Trump’s contribution to the previously postponed provision of essential armaments.

“I want to thank President Trump for his unwavering support for Israel,” he said on X, where he shared his video. Donald Trump is the best ally Israel has ever had in the White House, I said on my recent trip to Washington. And that camaraderie is shown by President Trump every single day.

“His ambitious plan for Gaza is one way he has shown it. Israel is totally in favor of this approach. By delivering us all of the armaments that were being held up, he has shown this. He is providing Israel with the means to complete the task against Iran’s terror axis in this manner. And he has shown it by standing behind Israel and putting pressure on Hamas to return the captives to their rightful place,” he said.

Notably, Steve Witkoff, President Trump’s envoy, has proposed an extension of the interim truce by 50 days, which Israel has approved. But the proposal has been rejected by Hamas.

“We can talk about the terms for a permanent ceasefire that will end the war in Gaza during that time,” Netanyahu said in reference to Witkoff’s proposal. According to Witkopf’s proposal, half of the hostages would be freed immediately, while the other half would be freed upon the conclusion of a long-term peace.

“Once again, Israel and I have agreed on this idea, but Hamas has refused it so far. “It is completely unacceptable that Hamas has also proposed positions for a permanent ceasefire,” he said.

Adding that Hamas was “stealing” items intended for the civilian population and exploiting them to finance its terrorist operations, he said Israel has decided to halt transferring products and supplies into Gaza.
Netanyahu reiterated that if Hamas holds prisoners any longer, Israel would take more action. “And throughout this, Israel knows that America and President Trump have our back,” he said.

Netanyahu thanked President Trump once again in his closing comments, saying, “Thank you again, President Trump. We appreciate all you are doing to secure our captives’ release and to ensure that all Middle Eastern peoples have a prosperous and peaceful future.

Hamas launched a surprise assault on Israel on October 7, 2023, sending terrorists to infiltrate Israeli communities near Gaza and launching hundreds of missiles. Hundreds of people were killed in the attack, while Israelis were captured and sent to Gaza as prisoners. Israel responded by launching a counteroffensive against Hamas, which sparked a significant confrontation.
