India knock out Australia, reach ICC Champions Trophy final for 5th time

New Delhi: India secured a spot in the Champions Trophy final with a four-wicket victory over Australia at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday. A steady knock of 84 from Virat Kohli and a vital 45 from Shreyas Iyer guided India to the target of 265. Australias fielding let them down with two dropped chances off Rohit Sharma and one off Kohli. Earlier Steve Smith (73) and Alex Carey (61) contributed with fifties putting Australia in a strong position. However they lost wickets quickly with Smith bowled by Mohammed Shami and Maxwell dismissed by Axar Patel. Carey was run out for 61 following a brilliant fielding effort from Shreyas Iyer. Shami took three wickets for India after Smith won the toss and chose to bat. Australia batting first were dismissed for 264 in 49.3 overs and India successfully chased it down with 11 balls remaining. Virat Kohli played a steady 98-ball knock for 84 while Shreyas Iyer contributed 45. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya also made valuable contributions with scores of 42 and 28 respectively in the first semifinal. Earlier captain Steve Smith and Alex Carey both made fifties to take Australia past 260. Smith was the top scorer with 73 off 96 balls forming crucial partnerships with Travis Head (39) for the second wicket which added 50 runs and Marnus Labuschagne (29) for the third wicket which contributed 56 runs. Carey made 61. For India Mohammed Shami took three wickets for 38 runs while Varun Chakravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja claimed two wickets each.
